Drugs and devices – European Society of Cardiology highlights

A record-breaking meeting of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) was held in London this year with 33,000 delegates from all over the world attending the five-day congress from 29th August–2nd September 2015. The British Journal of Cardiology (BJC) presents highlights from the meeting in their report, and in an accompanying podcast.

Much of the reportage in the atrial fibrillation (AF) arena was focused on real-world use of oral anticoagulation to prevent stroke, summarised in the report’s section on ‘AF and pacing highlights’ – available here.

The BJC podcast from the meeting gives an update on new devices, including a leadless pacemaker and a bioresabsorbable scaffold, from Drs Afzal Sohaib and Jubin Joseph. The pair also talk about advances in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction. Watch the podcast in full here.
