Arrhythmia Alliance welcomes new government strategy to prevent deaths from AF and sudden cardiac arrest

Arrhythmia Alliance has welcomed the focus on arrhythmias in the ‘Cardiovascular disease outcomes strategy’ from the Department of Health, particularly in terms of developing a register of automated external defibrillators, according to a recent statement.

The strategy calls for improved early diagnosis, assessment of risks and effective management of symptoms and risk factors for atrial fibrillation (AF) and improved rates of resuscitation and cardiac assessment of sudden cardiac death.

There now needs to be a concerted effort to drive up the rates of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implants, to prevent the UK lagging behind other countries on arrhythmia care as the ‘sick man of Europe’, says the Alliance.
