DIY pulse test awareness campaign launched

The World Heart Federation has recently launched the Do It Yourself (DIY) pulse test campaign, to increase global awareness of atrial fibrillation (AF). The test aims to motivate the public to be vigilant, and monitor possible arrhythmias by measuring their pulse.

The DIY pulse test is part of World Heart Federation’s Global AF Action (GAFA) international awareness & action campaign, which aligns with the WHO Target of reducing premature CVD mortality by 25% by 2025.

The GAFA campaign is dedicated to gaining greater recognition on AF as a driver for disability and death due to stroke or other cardiovascular diseases. It calls for urgent steps to be taken by World Heart Federation members to improve the diagnosis and care of patients with AF and the prevention of associated cardiovascular conditions.

“Every year, up to three million people worldwide have atrial fibrillation-related stroke. The majority of these strokes can be prevented by increasing global awareness of AF”, said Dr Kathryn Taubert, Chief Science Officer of the World Heart Federation.
